From decade to decade the management of the restaurant changed, gradually bringing about structural changes, but with always great respect for the original structure.

In 1982 Beppe Cravero, together with his wife Lidia, took over the reins of the tavern. With a passion for cooking and the desire to party, the Cravero family gives the Vascello d'Oro a new impulse: good humor and joy become the main ingredients, to be added to every lunch, every dinner. The art of hospitality and the vocation for welcoming are certainly not lacking.

The family expands and Beppe and Lidia become parents of Marco and Elena, who, once they grow up, join mum and dad in the restaurant. Marco is still on the front line at the Vascello d'Oro today, between the dining room and the kitchen. The vessel's navigation continues unabated through the decades, bringing with it a load of traditions.

In the heart of Carrù, at the gateway to the Langhe

There aren't many places that can boast such a long history behind them. The Il Vascello d'Oro restaurant has been in the same building for 140 years, located in the heart of Carrù, at the gateway to the Langhe.

Legend has it that, at the end of the 19th century, a Count left for America in search of fortune. After crossing the ocean aboard a ship of hope, he saved a small nest egg and decided to return to his homeland, traveling once again aboard a ship, full of dreams. In Carrù he purchased this hostel and, in memory of his successful journey to the New World, called it “Vasel d'Or” (in Italian “Golden Vessel”). The year was 1887!

To reach this venerable age, its launch must have taken place under a lucky star. All the staff on board, from the helmsman to the captain of the ship, must always have been capable of withstanding the many challenges that each season never fails to present. After all, a self-respecting ship, like life, is beautiful precisely because it knows how to face the open sea...
